The Man Who Brought The Olympics Back To Life

As one of the leading creative talents at work in the Olympics Movement today, George Hirthler is a seasoned campaign director who has served as lead writer or chief communications strategist for ten international winning bid campaigns, including the winning campaigns of Atlanta (1996) (his start), Beijing (2008) and Vancouver (2010). His life experience inspired him to publish a book entitled “The Idealist.” The book gives readers insight into the life and experience of Barron Pierre de Coubertin, the man who revived the Olympic Games in 1896 after nearly 1,500 years of absence. Hirthler discusses the need for such a narrative, and why he felt compelled to tell this story.

George Hirthler is the leading creative campaign strategists for the Olympic Movement. Talented at writing and producing, he helps to further brand initiatives that resonate across all continents, by creating narrative story lines that speak to a global audience and prepare presentation teams to deliver their best. He has nearly 3,000 pages of bid books and campaign collateral, countless film scripts, and presentations to his name as well as speeches for heads of state. He has served as a strategic consultant to the International Olympic Committee, the United States Olympic Committee, the Commonwealth Games Federation, numerous OCOGs and Olympic sponsors. In 1996 he was awarded the Chevalier in the Order of Arts & Letters by the Republic of France for his work in promoting the Olympic Ideals, and in 2004 Sports Business Magazine named him one of the 20 most influential people in the Olympic Movement.
